Frequently asked questions

Activity level

For the tours within the city you should be able to walk on and off narrow sidewalks, over cobblestone-covered streets and through city traffic. Some parts of the tour require you to walk up a moderate hill. Many of the stops are standing up for five-minutes at a time, some with seating available.

For the tours within the castles you will be required to walk on steep ramps and long flights of stairs. Good, comfortable and stable shoes are strongly recommended for both tours.

However, if you or someone in your group has a physical limitation, we offer tours designed for the physically challenged. Call or text Karen González-Jensen at 787.640.4070 or send a message to kgonzalez@archtourspr.com to discuss your needs and coordinate.

Length of tour

The city tour lasts 2.5-hours and both castle tours last 2-hours –sometimes longer, depending on the number of people on the tour and/ or traffic on the streets.

Dressing

I suggest that you dress very casually, using loose, cool and light fabric clothes. Wear good comfortable shoes (remember, you will be doing a lot of standing). I recommend you use a sun-protecting hat, sunscreen and take along a water bottle. It is a good idea not to bring shopping bags or to be weighted down with heavy backpacks because of the length of the tour.

Transportation

Meeting places have been chosen for their centric location and available public transportation (taxis and trolleys) that are always available to and from them. If you will be arriving in your own car, there are also several public parking places nearby. If you will be arriving to Old San Juan using the public bus system or from a cruise, you will have to walk approximately five-minutes from the city bus terminal and port docking area to the meeting place.

Children

The tours are designed for adults or young adults with an interest in the architecture and/ or history of the place they are visiting. I try to keep the tour fun and interesting but its content is relatively sophisticated and it is not recommended for children under 8.

Baby strollers/ Wheelchairs

I strongly discourage the use of baby strollers and wheelchairs during the programmed architectural walks as we will move on and off narrow sidewalks, over cobblestone-covered streets and through city traffic. I suggest you carry your baby close to you, in a sling, or take along your toddler on an extremely light and narrow folding stroller.

Restrooms

Sorry, there are no public restrooms available during the walking tour in the city. For the walking tours within castles, the National Park Service provides public restrooms at both of them.

Arriving late

Tours leave on time (9:00 am/ 12:00 am/ 3:00 pm) and it will be hard to find us if you are late. Check-in time is 10 minutes before the start of the tour to allow for confirmation of payment and organization. Remember to take into consideration extra time for walking to the place, public transportation that may be late or difficulty finding available parking. No money refund (total or partial) will be issued for non-present or late clients.

Cancellation Policy

Tours take place rain or shine; they are usually cancelled only if there is heavy rain or very strong winds (for example: a hurricane). A decision to cancel the tour due to severe weather conditions will be made the day of the tour. Call or text Karen González-Jensen at 787.640.4070 or send a message to kgonzalez@archtourspr.com to inquire status. Total refund will be issued in this case scenario.

If you need to cancel your reservation please let know in advance as there may be people on a waiting list. Full refund will be given if client cancels for any reason 10-days prior to the tour’s date. A 10% fee from the total to be refunded will still be deducted to cover the rates we pay to process credit card transactions. Other than that, there will be no refund for non-present, late clients or for clients that decide to leave the ongoing tour.

Gift certificates

Gift certificates are available. Check that option when making a reservation and you will receive a certificate by email in the form of a PDF attachment. You can print the form and present it as a gift in an envelope. Gift certificates are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Method of payment

All transactions will be conducted in U.S. Dollars. You will be provided a receipt with your payment and directions for the meeting point.
